For the First Time St. Petersburg Design Week Was Held in Online Format

More than 2,000 participants took part in the Online Forum four-day program. The virtual platform for the event was the multi-disciplinary online university Skillbox, the Forum’s general online partner. The strategic partner was the KORTROS group of companies, a federal construction brand with a 15-year history, which is associated with quality, reliability and high professionalism.
From June 22 to 25, the business program was attended by professionals from the architectural and design market, as well as design connoisseurs from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Arkhangelsk, Perm and other Russian cities. Thanks to the online format, it was possible to expand the geography of not only guests, but also project participants. Speakers from Russia, Italy, USA, Germany, Estonia, Great Britain, France and Japan made live broadcasts.

The online forum was opened by President of St. Petersburg Design Week Ruslan Chernobaev: "When I first visited Milan Design Week more than 10 years ago, I was struck by the demand for this format and decided to transfer it to a fairly favorable St. Petersburg soil. Everyone names St. Petersburg the cultural capital of Russia, and for 10 years we have been promoting the city as the capital of design. Our current strategy is based on the concept of good news. Design is a very positive activity that is changing the environment for the better. Designers are mostly positive, people who believe in the best, who live in the world of beautiful things and create a beautiful aura around them. "

The event program saved its familiar thematic structure and included International Design Day, Russian Design Day, Business Networking Day and Designer’s Day. The lecture block was devoted to new realities in the market of design and architecture. Significant keynote speeches were a review of the World Design Organization’s initiatives in the context of the economic crisis aimed at supporting design and designers, which was presented by the president of the World Design Organization Srini Srinivasan, as well as the lecture "Design as an Innovation Driver", in which President of the Union of Designers of Russia Vitaly Stavitsky outlined prospects for the development of the design industry in Russia.

Francesca Russo, publisher of Design Diffusion World, spoke about the role of the media in the current global situation. The specifics of force majeure in a pandemic were presented by Ruslan Gatsalov, founder of the Art Law Creative Law Center for the Creative Industry. Business coach Ksenia Ulyanova shared with architects and designers how to effectively and efficiently express yourselves online, and creative designer of the makelove employer-branding agency Anastasia Bashanina spoke about the importance of interactive design for events in the digitalization era. You could also learn about the effectiveness of design at a lecture by Pavel Lebedev, creator of the Youtube channel Marketer. How business tourism affects the development of the destination, with the Northern capital of Russia as an example, was demonstrated by Andrei Matsarin, general director of the Congress and Exhibition Bureau of St. Petersburg.

Another important topic of presentations was environmental sustainability and its impact on the global economy. So, on the first day of the Forum, the head of the department of international partnership programs and innovations IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) Andrea Tosi spoke about the features of aesthetic sustainability in Italy, which is aimed at the transition to a cyclical economy in the country. The panel discussion "Ecodesign and the Cyclical Economy", organized with the support of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and Medina Art LLC, attracted special attention of students. The leaders of the EcoDesign Cycle 4.0 project, the Interreg Baltic Sea Region program, and speakers from Russia, Germany and Estonia presented their vision. The topic of speeches was supported by the participants of the round table "Prospects for Product Design. Materials of the Future, the Process of Their Development and the Supporting Ecosystem Necessary for This ", moderated by Marine Birot-Ducray, producer, founder of the Artistik Bazaar creative agency. Leading architect of the Simone Micheli Architectural Hero bureau Paolo Emilio Cassandro spoke about new trends in construction and architecture using the example of projects completed by the Italian studio.

By tradition, the development community is actively involved in the development week. So, the strategic partner of the event, the KORTROS group of companies, has announced a new federal competition for interior designers in Russia. Participants of the open competition are invited to create conceptual interior designs based on existing layouts for the KORTROS residential complexes. The competition will start in September, and its results will be announced at the ADD AWARDS Ceremony in December 2020.
"We are faced with the fact that even the best comprehensive completed object does not always meet the interests of customers. Often, fully finished apartments are still remade for themselves. The idea of the competition is to agree on a design project, which the buyer will choose, already at the construction stage. For participants of the competition, we offer ready-made solutions and plans for creating conceptual projects, which can then be finalized taking into account the specific wishes of customers. We are ready to post these works on our website and then accompany the project during construction and until the object is commissioned," noted Philippe Tretyakov, Chief Commercial Officer of KORTROS Group of Companies.

The results of another interior competition organized among young design fans were summed up on the last day of the Forum. The theme of the XXIII International Children’s Design, Fine and Applied Art Competition "Room of My Dreams" was "Clean Line & Ecodesign". The organizers presented 48 main prizes for children and children’s groups, as well as 5 special prizes, one Grand Prix and special diplomas.
The business program was supported by leading brands in the interior market. The Finnish company Pohjanmaan presented three elegant Koura Holder firecrackers among the participants of the Online Forum, and the most active listener received the innovative Triflex HX1 from Miele as a gift. Participants could find out about the latest news from the world’s leading manufacturer of household appliances at the fascinating presentation of the Miele Generation 7000 collection for kitchen, which was conducted by Elena Alexandrova, project manager of the Mile CIS project business.

Online Forum has become a preparatory event for the main season. From September 23 to 26, the 10th Anniversary St. Petersburg Design Week will be held in a hybrid format combining online and offline events.

The Organizing Committee expresses great gratitude to the speakers and partners for their participation and support! See you in September! You can apply for participation until August 15, 2020. Follow the news on spbdesignweek.com
